A few years ago I had the pleasure of enjoying a lovely vacation in Jamaica. It was my first time visiting the island and I was due for a little TLC. I had a fantastic time but by the end of the week, I had caught a virus that was draining my energy. I left the sunny island feeling refreshed and motivated to get back to business, yet when I landed in Toronto I was greeted with a heavy rainstorm. To make matters worse I was getting sicker by the minute, my body was aching, I was tired and exhausted, and the change of air pressure from landing had my ears blocked for hours.
Honestly, I was grumpy. I was just not in the mood and every little thing began to get on my nerves and irritate me more and more. The virus I had caught on vacation was draining my energy physically and my grumpy mood was stealing my motivation mentally. No matter how hard I tried I could not get out of my grumpy mood.
Have you ever been in a bad mood and become more frustrated because you could not change your mood?
Challenges and obstacles are going to happen all the time, it is important not to get discouraged and give all your energy into your frustration. When we become frustrated our mind is literally focusing on one small particular thing, blurring our vision of the entire picture. In situations like this, it helps to speak kindness to your soul and give yourself some TLC.
Once I had become cautious of my thought process I realized I had to change my attitude. I started reciting affirmations and reading inspirational blogs, spent time with friends and even went for a walk. To change my mind I had to change my surroundings and thoughts. There are many different steps you take to get out of discouragement here are a few to help you: frustration and jump back into motivation.
- Journaling - Those thoughts that are running around in your head need to get out. Get them out! Take a pen and piece of paper and let your thought flow.
- Exercise- A good workout always helps to clear your head. A simple walk or 15 minutes on a yoga mat is all it takes sometimes to release that pent up frustration.
- Talking with Someone You trust- Every now and then we need to someone to just listen. Talking to someone you trust can help give a new perspective or insight that may be the solution to the problem.
- Affirmations- Speak and think positive thoughts. Speak kindness into your soul.
As long as you do what is right and helpful for you to stay motivated and keep you going. There are no limits to what you can achieve.
