The Journey to Success is not easy, believe me!  I have struggled and jumped over so many hurdles to get where I am in life. My learning disability is my strength, not my weakness. Join me on this journey to success! I want to share with you, my personal stories of inspiration and motivation that helped me to overcome the challenges I have faced. Your special needs may be different than mine but you do not have to overcome the challenges alone. We are on this journey together!

You didn't come all this way for Nothing

What keeps me going? Time and time again people always ask me how I am so motivated to do all the things I do. My answer is I really do not know. I guess along the way this journey of life taught me a few things.

1. Nothing works unless you do … okay, these are words inspired by Mya Angelou.

2. What you want is not going to be handed to you on a silver platter.

Knowing these two facts, help to propel me forward and give me momentum on achieving my goals and dreams.

But I will be honest there has been many times I wanted to give up and quit. I was always that kid that enjoyed going back to school but the third-year of university I had reached my breaking point. I became frustrated and mentally exhausted, I could not see the light at the end of the tunnel. Very few people know this but this is when I hit my rock bottom and questioned if I should stay in school. Yes, the advocate for inclusive education once thought about dropping out of school.

Even today, from time to time I still may lose my motivation. One of the biggest misconceptions is that we think that motivation is a one-time thing. This is like believing you only have to put gas in the car once and you’re good to go forever. Life happens! There are a lot of obstacles of fear, bad circumstances or even words of discouragement that can run your tank empty. Even I from time to time have become unmotivated. During this dark hours I use these tips to help me refuel:

1. Filter out the comments. Use good judgment to determine if the comment is something constructive or destructive and filter the destructive comments out. If someone has not experienced something for themselves, you can’t always assume that their words are credible or valuable to you.

2. Focus on the Positive. No matter what the circumstances there is always a positive and a lesson to be learned, one that will help you to grow. Rather focusing on what went wrong, try asking yourself what am I supposed to learn from this?

3. Revalue and analyze why you started on this journey in the first place. I practice this step on regular basis. At the end of the day, your reason why you started will help keep pulling you forward.

Your motivation is your fuel to keep you going on this journey.

Your motivation is your fuel to keep you going on this journey.

Back to my story... I remember walking the hallways at school lost in thought wondering what I should do. As much as I was tangoing with the idea of just quitting and leaving school something deeper inside of me kept saying “you didn’t come all this way for nothing.”   I am so thankful, I never gave up because what was waiting on the other side of that challenges was by far greater than that one moment of discouragement. Until this very day when I am faced with a challenge and I begin to waver with my motivation, I always come back to these words.

You are bound to face tough challenges on your journey, but it is important to not allow these tough times steal your motivation. You are never alone on this journey, there are #NoLimits to what you can achieve. Always remember You didn't come all this way for nothing
